Some years ago I re-started dyeing cloth, having not done it for a long time. Technology had moved on, and I spent a good deal of time researching and reading online and joined a very on-topic listserv list at Michigan University..
And, because I asked the right sort of technical questions and did not discuss my cats, I was accepted and welcomed and had a lot of fun...
And, one day, one of the best teachers in the world, Carol Soderlund, sent me her teaching notes, with a requirement that I did not teach dyes using these notes and that "if I was in the USA she would have had to ask me to come to a class". I think this was one of the most generous and helpful things I have had happen to me. And, a couple of weeks later a little packet of fabrics came in the post...
I was utterly delighted, and used many of them to make this piece. And, having made the top, it took me 9 years to finish it, because I couldn't make the edge work the way I wanted...
So, here it is.
And, I have been dyeing and working with dyes ever since.
